We invite scholars, PhD students, practitioners, and representatives of policymakers and stakeholders interested in intellectual property’s economic, legal and political aspects to submit papers for 18th EPIP Annual Conference in Kraków, Poland.

Topics

Submissions from all disciplines on all IP-related topics are welcomed. This year’s conference title is “IP, innovation and technology – challenging the present, inspiring the future”. It allows for the presentation on a range of issues related to the relationship between IP and innovation, the impact of new technologies on IP law, challenges and opportunities for IP systems in shaping sustainable innovation, health business policies, particularly in the digital market, and many others. We encourage you to submit papers addressing the broad concept of the conference, in particular, those directly and indirectly linked with the following leading themes:

  • IP system at the crossroads
  • IP for innovation, business and society
  • IP in the digital world
  • Interfaces between IP, innovation and regulatory systems

We also encourage you to submit contributions to the WIPO-sponsored session Innovation and Intellectual Property in the Videogame industries. Detailed information about this special session is available in its call for contributions. Please note that the deadline for submissions is the same as for the entire event.

Additionally, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will sponsor a special session on Cumulative Creativity and the Dynamics of the Copyright System – The Impact of New Technology including Artificial Intelligence. This session is jointly organized with the newly appointed Chief Economist at the U.S. Copyright Office and WIPO Department of Economics and Data Analytics. Please find attached the call for submissions for this special session. Please note that these submissions are processed separately from the regular submission system used for the conference. You can submit your contributions directly to the conference e-mail by 15 June 2023, indicating the submission for “WIPO Sponsored EPIP 2023 Special Session”.

Submission information

The online submission system is now open.

Applicants should must submit full papers or extended abstracts via the online submission system within the deadline of 15 May 2023.

There are no requirements for the particular format of a submissions. Abstracts (we recommend at least 400 words) are welcome, but preference will be given to full-paper submission which discuss the topic in a more detailed mode. Please note that the same system is used for uploading submissions regardless of their size and format (e.g. there are no separate upload forms for abstracts and full papers).

Please indicate whether your submission is also eligible for the Young Scholar EPIP Award.

Please note that by registering, you do not commit to the payment. The early fee can be paid any time before 10 July 2023, after confirming the acceptance of your submission.

Themed sessions proposals

Next to individual submission, EPIP 2023 invites applications for a limited number of themed sessions on any relevant topic. Proposals for sessions and papers proposed for the themed session should be submitted via the submission platform and will be subjected to a review and selection process. Participants proposed in a themed session should register and submit an abstract via the registration system separately.

Preferences will be given to the theme sessions addressing the leading themes and topics. Use the online submission system to submit proposals.

The organizing committee reserves the right to modify proposed sessions in the final program based on accepted contributions.

Young Scholars Awards

The EPIP Association supports young researchers at the beginning of their academic careers by awarding two Young Scholars Awards for the best full papers submitted by PhD students in economics/management and law. Eligible submissions should indicate whether the paper should be considered for the competition by additional “Young Scholar Award Submission” information.

EPIP PhD workshop

The EPIP association supports PhD students by offering them reduced conference registration fees. A PhD workshop will be held on the morning of 11 September 2023, as part of the annual conference, at no extra cost for all registered students.
